Mr. Bishop would be honored to come speak with your group or organization
Over his lifetime Internationally Renowned Western Writer, Author and speaker
D. J. Bishop has been many things, among them a truck driver, computer programmer, heavy equipment operator, and cowboy.
It wasn’t until ten years after surviving a severe heart attack in 1986 that his father-in-law (Major Guy G. Randall) noticed D. J. was battling with depression and knowing he needed to do something to get his mind back on track, suggested he try his hand at writing a story.
It took awhile for D. J. to decide he would give it a shot. He did not start his first book until the summer of 1998 and he finished it nine-hundred pages later in 2000.
Since then he has written eleven Western novels of which three have been published, several short stories, many of which have been published in the the Fort Worth Star Telegram, and a children’s book.
D. J. owes his life to writing for if not for following his father-in-law’s timely advice the heavy hand of depression would have surely taken its toll. He would like to come share his amazing story with the members of your group or organization.
He speaks of living after a heart attack that took much of his memory, depression that almost took his life, and the art of writing. He gives first-hand advice on the do’s and don’ts of writing a story, putting your idea on paper, the much talked-about editing aspect, and choosing a publisher for your work.
Even though there is no charge for his appearance, he would expect to recover the ever growing cost of gasoline and if the trip should call for them to spend the night due to he or his wife not being able to see well enouth after dark to drive safely they would also need lodging, and meals furnished. He does however request that he be allowed to do a book signing after each speaking engagement.
